Waterski Opened Season with Win Over Rollins

GROVELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College waterski team opened up their season with the annual Showdown on the shores of this year hosted at the Jack Travers Waterski School in Groveland. The Moccasins went home with the overall title defeating Rollins College1,265 - 855 with all the events combined scoring
The women dominated the water finishing with the top spot in all categories winning 200-80 in the Slalom, 235-105 in the Trick, and 100-0 in the Jump for a 535-185 overall win. 

For the men, they competed in an "A" group and "B" group with the overall win going to the Mocs. In the "A" group the Tars won in the Slalom (270-250) and the Trick (240-200), but won the Jump (280-160) allowing FSC to secure the win 730-670 overall win. 

The "B" group took home a 200-120 overall win as Mocs won in all categories but the Trick falling just 60-40. The wins came in the Slalom 150-60 where FSC had a top three finish and jumped 10-0 with Trey Snell jumping 79 feet. 

Olivia Chute led the way in the Slalom taking home first earning 70 points for a 93.50 score. Sierra Klinchuch and Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah finished tied for second both earning 55 points and a 93 score. 

In the Trick, Yoong Hanifan took first scoring 4580 and 80 points while Chute earned a tie for second with a Rollins skier finishing with 4190 score and 65 points. To close out the top five Klinchuch and Chloe Ellingsen capture fourth and fifth with a 1040 score for Klinchuch and a 980 score for Ellingsen.

Florida Southern swept the Jump as every woman took a place with Yoong Hanifah earning first (136 feet) Klinchuch (85 feet), Delaney Harris (76 feet), and Avery Crain (56 feet). 

For the men, Rollins took the first and second spot with FSC taking the remaining of the top five spots in the Slalom as Johnny Horwood earned third (105), William McLaughlin (104.50) took fourth, and Vicente Tizza (103.50) finishing fifth. 

The Trick's top spots went to Rollins, as Vicente Tizza took third (2860) and Johnny Horwood fourth (2430).

Chase Sparks for the Mocs earned first jumping 167 feet, and Santiago Barrientos (156 feet) and Johnny Horwood (154 feet) finished third. 

In the "B" Men FSC swept the top spots with Ty Meeker earning first in the Slalom, and Trey Snell taking first in the Trick and Jump. In the Slalom, Meeker took home the top spot followed by Chase Sparks in second and Snell in third. 

Next up for the Mocs is the SAC Regional, which will be held at Whitestone Lakes in Talking Rock, Ga. on Sept. 27-29.
