Florida Southern Water Ski Wins Back-To-Back SAC Regional Championships

VALLEY, Ala. – Florida Southern College water ski captured the SAC Regional Championship title on Sunday, going back-to-back and finishing atop the team standings with 7,810 points at Divorce Lake.

The Mocs finished first in two of the three disciplines, winning both trick and jump while placing second in slalom. FSC's 7,810 total points topped second-place Rollins, which finished with 7,145, while Alabama rounded out the top three with 5,645 points. 

Florida Southern opened the competition with a strong showing in slalom, collecting 2,950 team points to finish second behind Rollins' 3,095. On the women's side, Perrine Sonier led the Mocs with four buoys at 35 off, followed closely by Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah with three at 35 off and Solie Stenger with two at 35 off. Grace Brown added four buoys at 28 off. 

Chase Sparks paced FSC's men's slalom competitors with 3.5 buoys at 38 off. George Malinovski followed with two at 38 off, while Dominic Kuhn recorded 1.5 at 38 off and Jacopo Gargaro added a half buoy at 38 off. 

The Mocs moved to the top of the standings in trick, winning the discipline with 2,580 team points. Kuhn captured the men's individual trick title with 6,270 points, edging Rollins' Pablo Font, who finished with 6,210. Malinovski added a fourth-place performance with 4,420 points, while Trenton Oberndorf and Evan Robbins scored 2,220 and 2,210 points, respectively. 

Yoong Hanifah made it a sweep of the individual trick titles for FSC, winning the women's competition with 4,630 points. Sonier finished third with 2,480 points, while Chloe Ellingsen recorded 1,000 points, Stenger added 920, and Avery Crain finished with 770. 

Florida Southern closed out the regional championship with another dominant performance in jump, earning a discipline-best 2,280 team points.

Sparks and Robbins gave the Mocs the top two spots in men's jump. Sparks won the event with a 169-foot jump, while Robbins followed at 164 feet. Malinovski added another top-five FSC performance with a 160-foot mark, and Jakub Mares jumped 149 feet.

The Mocs were even more dominant on the women's side, sweeping the top three spots. Yoong Hanifah claimed the women's jump title with a 144-foot performance, Sonier finished second at 129 feet and Stenger took third with a 117-foot jump. Sophia Suman added a 93-foot performance, while Crain recorded a 68-foot jump. 

The regional title was powered by four individual event victories, as Sparks won men's jump, Kuhn took men's trick and Yoong Hanifah took both the women's trick and jump titles.

Florida Southern finished the championship with 7,810 points, 665 ahead of Rollins, to claim the SAC Regional crown. The Mocs finished with 2,950 points in slalom, 2,580 in trick and 2,280 in jump.
