Moccasin Baseball Making Moves in National Rankings

Mocs rank No. 4 in NCBWA and No. 11 in ABCA polls

WINGATE, N.C. – The Florida Southern College baseball team made big moves in the latest national rankings, moving up to No. 4 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and No. 11 in the America Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) top 25 polls.

The Moccasins made a big leap from No. 12 in last week's NCBWA poll to the top five, the highest since FSC was No. 5 during the 2020 season. The ABCA had its first regular season poll this week to rank FSC No. 11, after ranking No. 28 in the preseason poll. D2 Baseball has also recognized the Mocs as No. 21 in Division II, announced on Feb. 17. The University of Tampa was dethroned from the NCBWA top spot for the first time since preseason 2024 and currently ranks No. 6 in NCBWA. In the weekly NCWBA region poll, Florida Southern ranked ahead of Tampa for the number 1 spot in the south region.

Florida Southern is off to a hot start in 2025, 9-1 overall with consecutive weekend sweeps of Georgia Southwestern State and USC Beaufort. FSC had a big midweek win over Eckerd College on Feb. 11 and previously had its season opener against then No. 14 West Florida with a 2-1 series win.

As a team, the Mocs are first in the conference in multiple categories including runs scored, scoring per game, stolen bases, and triples. At the national stage, FSC is number two in stolen bases (50) and two in triples (6). FSC also ranked in the top 25 of scoring, runs, and home runs.

Ahmad Fitts had a big week for the Mocs, named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week and NCBWA South Region Player of the Week, hitting five homers last week in four games. Fitts ranked ninth in DII with homers, tied with Rollins' Mason Wilson. With 19 hits this season already, Mikey Scott is 25th in the nation in hits and Jevin Relaford is second in the nation in stolen bases (15), just ahead of Grant Thoroman, who is third in DII with 13 SB. Closer Colby Rice leads the SSC in saves and tied for second in DII for total saves (4).

The Mocs have their SSC opener this weekend on the road as they face Florida Tech in Melbourne Feb. 21-22.
