Five Mocs Honored with All-SSC Accolades; Corona Named Freshman of the Year

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's lacrosse program picked up five All-Conference honors when the Sunshine State Conference announced its annual awards Tuesday afternoon (April 22). Freshman Carson Corona earned SSC Freshman of the Year honors, first for FSC since 2022 when Matt Flammenspeck earned the award.
 
Junior Jacob Czyz was FSC's lone First Team selection at faceoff while sophomore Maddux Walton and Corona appeared on the Second Team. FSC's final two honorees, seniors Brydon Robichaud and Mason McQuiggin, were chosen for the Third Team.

Corona, a Syracuse, N.Y. native, is the first freshman defenseman to earn All-SSC Second Team or higher since 2019. He ranks fifth in SSC caused turnovers (22) and caused turnovers per game (1.57), 10th in ground balls (40), and 13th in ground balls per game (2.86). Corona joins Flammenspeck (2022) as the only Moccasins to win Freshman of the Year in men's lacrosse. Corona started every game for the Mocs this season while being named the SSC Defensive Player of the Week on March 17 and to the USILA Division II Team of the Week on March 19.

Czyz, a Baldwinsville, N.Y. native, picks up his third SSC All-Conference honors and second First Team selection. The junior was named SSC Specialist of the Week four times this season, bringing his career total to eight. He currently ranks seventh in the NCAA in faceoff winning percentage (.678) and ground balls per game (7.83) while leading the conference in both categories. He scored a career-high eight goals this season including the game-winning goal versus Colorado Mesa. He had double-digit faceoff wins in all 12 contests in which he appeared including a season-high of 19 versus Wingate early in the season. He had three double-digit ground ball performances with a season-best 14 versus Wingate.

Walton, a Columbia, Md. product, collects his first career postseason honor after starting in every Florida Southern contest this past season. He led the Mocs in both goals (26) and points (33) this season while taking a team-high 106 shots including 62 on goal. He scored a trio of hat tricks versus Wingate, at Rollins and versus Tampa in the season finale. He scored at least one goal in every contest except the season opener. He currently ranks seventh in the SSC in goals per game (1.86) and 12th in points per game (2.36) while leading the league in shots per game (7.57).

Robichaud, a High River, Alberta, Canada native, picks up his second All-SSC honor and first Third Team selection. The senior was named Second Team All-SSC following last season. He led the Mocs this season with 11 assists while ranking second on the team in points with 26. His 15 goals scored place him tied for third on the squad. He scored a season-high two goals in four different contests while posting a season-high of two assists twice. He scored the game-winning goal at Palm Beach Atlantic and had at least one point in all but one contest on the year.

McQuiggin, a Calgary, Alberta, Canada native, makes his first appearance on the All-SSC list in his final season in Lakeland. The senior appeared in every contest this season while ranking second on the team in caused turnovers (17) and third in groundballs (38). He scored twice this season, once at Belmont Abbey and the other came at home versus Saint Leo. He also handed out five assists with a season-best two coming versus Florida Tech.   
 
The Mocs will begin focusing on the off season and preparation for the 2026 campaign.
