The 13-time NCAA DII National Champions, No. 10 Florida Southern, is ready for the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship, May 19-23 at PGA National in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Moccasin are one of 20 teams vying to advance to the medal/match play and battle for the national title.
It's the 41
st appearance at the national championship and the first since 2021-22 as a team. The Moccasins look to capture their first team title since the 2017 team title and will allow for five players to battle the field for the program's 11
th individual national champ. The Mocs have 10 individuals with 11 titles, behind two-time national champion Tim Crouch (2013, 2014). Tom Gleeton won the first title in 1979, followed by Tom Patri (1981), Lee Janzen (1986), Matt Saglio (1999), Jeff Klauk (2000), Steve Sokol (2001), Crouch with his back-to-back, and then capped off with the VanDerLaan brothers in back-to-back years as well: John VanDerLaan in 2018 and Michael VanDerLaan in 2019.
The Mocs will look for momentum and guidance from
Tyler Mistretta, who, along with coach
Brian Richey '09, has experience at the National Championship. Mistretta, a redshirt junior out of North Palm Beach, Fla., competed as an individual at the 2024 national championship, finishing tied for 70
th at 221 (+8). Richey played two times at the national championship and helped coach the 2010 team that went on to win the national title. Richey's first appearance was in 2008 when he finished tied for 52
nd at 291 before competing as an individual in 2009, taking home a top 20 finish at 297.

The event will feature 54 holes of stroke play to determine the individual national champion and the top eight teams that will advance to the medal/match play on Thursday for the NCAA Quarterfinals and Semifinals. The final two standing teams will take the course on Friday in the 2025 NCAA DII National Championship match. The defending national champions, No. 1 Colorado Christian, and the 2024 national runners-up, No. 3 North Georgia, are in the mix again this year, along with No. 2 West Florida, No. 4 Lincoln Memorial, and No. 5 Central Oklahoma to round out the top five teams.
