LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College (3-0-2, 0-0-1 SSC) and Lynn University (1-2-3, 0-0-1 SSC) played to a scoreless draw on Saturday night at Berend Field.
The game was halted with five minutes remaining in the second half due to a campus-issued shutdown. After receiving an all-clear notification from the campus, the game was administratively declared a complete game, and the 0-0 draw was the final result for the Mocs' conference opener.
The first half featured a persistent offensive push from Florida Southern College, with
Madison Male leading the effort by taking multiple shots, including one at the top right in the 5th minute. Despite a strong start, including a saved shot by
Sammie Markey in the 8th minute, the home team could not convert its chances into goals. Florida Southern's defense held firm, aided by
Carly Brodsky in goal, keeping Lynn scoreless through the half.
The second half began with Florida Southern maintaining defensive resilience, highlighted by Brodsky's key save against Isabella Humbles in the 53rd minute. Despite several opportunities, including shots from
Isabella Payne and
Megan Rhonemus, both saved by Lynn's Emma Brunelli, neither team managed to find the back of the net. The half ended scoreless, with both defenses holding firm throughout.
Brodsky posted two saves as the sole Moccasin keeper in the game. Payne registered three shots, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Rhonemus finished with two shots on goal, maintaining pressure on the opposing defense.
Aliya Roberts had two shots, including one on goal, supporting the team's attempt to break the deadlock.
Brunelli was in goal for the Fighting Knights, making four saves over the game. Michaela Virgin contributed to the team's offensive efforts, leading with one shot. Julia Hellenkamp also had a notable performance with one shot on goal. Humbles matched Hellenkamp's effort with one shot on goal, adding to the team's attacking pressure.
Looking ahead, FSC will host Saint Leo University on September 24. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Berend Field in Lakeland, Fla.
