WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A late goal by
Rilee Hasegawa led to a 1-1 tie between Florida Southern College women's soccer (4-0-8, 1-0-5 SSC) and Palm Beach Atlantic University (4-5-3, 0-4-2 SSC) on Saturday night.
Florida Southern created the larger share of first-half chances and finished the half with a 12-5 shot advantage, but the match remained scoreless.
Isabella Payne hit the left woodwork in the third minute and added another early attempt, while
Carly Brodsky answered PBA's early pressure with saves in the ninth and 26th minutes. FSC's most sustained push came from the 28th to 38th minutes, when
Ally Prentice put two shots on goal,
Megan Rhonemus and Spirk added attempts, and the visitors earned two corner kicks.
Ava Hackworth and
Jamie Klein kept the Moccasins active late with shots in the final five minutes, but the half ended 0-0.
Hasegawa scored in the 77th minute off a pass by
Addyson Denecour and a cross by
Sierra Spirk, bringing the Mocs level at 1-1. Earlier, Florida Southern opened the half with a corner kick and a
Frankie Gatien shot, then added more pressure around the hour mark with two corners before the Sailfish scored at 60:34. FSC responded with five shots and a corner over the next six-plus minutes, including saved attempts from Spirk and
Ellie Dossantos. After Hasegawa's equalizer, the Moccasins kept pushing with shots from Klein,
Bria Weldon and Hackworth, plus two late corner kicks, and the match finished tied 1-1.
Hasegawa scored an equalizer and finished with three shots. Spirk recorded an assist and put two of her three shots on goal. Prentice added three shots, including two on frame. Brodsky played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.
Up next, the Mocs travel to Daytona Beach, Florida, to face Embry-Riddle University (Fla.) on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at ERAU Soccer Stadium.
