Mocs Draw Even With Eagles in Scoreless Bout

Ricardo Marques' fifth clean sheet of the season ties him for third in program history.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern (10-1-2, 5-0-2) drew even Embry-Riddle (8-1-3, 4-1-2) in a 0-0 draw on Wednesday (Oct. 14). Ricardo Marques' heroics gave him his fifth shutout on the season, tying him for third all time in program history.

FSC's first-half story centered on keeping ERAU off the board through a mid-half push, with Marques making two saves as the visitors finished with six shots to the Mocs' four in the opening 45 minutes. Earlier, Dakota Henry gave Florida Southern the first recorded shot in the fourth minute, while the Eagles answered with a shot and a corner before the match turned more physical. Marques was shown a yellow card at 14:48, then saved Lukas Bludau's shot in the 17th minute during a stretch in which the Eagles generated shots and a corner but FSC did not concede. Joao Lopes added a Moccasins shot midway through the half, and after Marques stopped another Bludau attempt at midway through the period, Darcy Moffat and Luciano Schiaffini had late attempts before the half ended.

Florida Southern opened the second half with sustained pressure, generating multiple shots and corner kicks through the opening 15 minutes while keeping the match even. Tim Baierlein, Lopes and Moffat had early attempts, and Schiaffini, Moffat and Hector Oliver each put shots on frame that Marcos da Silva saved back-to-back. ERAU answered with second-half chances, but Marques saved shots from Jonas Banouas in the 68th and a diving stop three minutes before the final whistle to keep the Mocs level. The closing stretch included several fouls and cards before Max Muth forced another save in the 83rd minute on the home squad's best look all night on goal, and neither side scored as the match finished 0-0.

Marques posted a shutout with four saves over 90 minutes. Moffat shared the team lead with three shots and put one attempt on goal. Lopes also finished with three shots for FSC. Schiaffini added two shots, including one on frame.

It's just the second draw on the season for the Mocs, still undefeated in SSC play. Both teams had three corner kicks and four shots on goal while FSC led in total attempts, 12-9.

Up next, the Mocs Tampa on Wednesday (Oct. 21) for the final home match of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7 pm with Senior Night slated to begin at %;50 pm at Berend Field.
