LAKELAND, Fla. — The regular season ended on a high note as Florida Southern College women's soccer (7-1-8, 4-1-5 SSC) delivered a statement victory over No. 2 Florida Tech (11-1-6, 5-1-4 SSC) by a 2-0 score on Tuesday night. Tonight marked the highest-ranked opponent Florida Southern has defeated since a 3-2 overtime win over No. 2 West Florida in 2010.
The game opened fast as Florida Southern generated set-piece pressure with five corner kicks in the first 13 minutes, including chances that led to a
Sierra Spirk shot on frame and an
Aliya Roberts attempt wide. The Panthers created stretches of pressure through the middle and late stages of the half, but
Carly Brodsky made four saves, including stops at 29:43, 39:25 and 43:22 to keep the match scoreless. FSC also got a saved shot from
Frankie Gatien in the 26th minute and another from
Addyson Denecour in the 42nd before
Ava Hackworth put the Mocs in front at 44:35. Entering just three minutes prior as a late sub, Hackworth scored thanks to a bouncing free kick from
Hayden Johnston to send the Mocs into halftime ahead 1-0.
The Mocs' second-half breakthrough came at 74:32, when
Georgina Spraggon finished a
Jamie Klein assist to turn a 1-0 match into a 2-0 advantage. Earlier, FSC opened the half with pressure, getting a Johnston shot saved at 48:28, earning a corner seconds later and adding attempts from Spirk and Johnston by 51:42. The Panthers answered with several looks, including Brodsky's save on Alyssa Gonzalez at 70:42, and Florida Southern withstood more pressure after the goal when the Panthers earned a corner and had a shot stopped by a team save at 75:51. The closing stretch grew physical, but
Megan Rhonemus still generated three late shots as FSC carried the 2-0 score to the end.
Hackworth scored the game-winning goal, her first of the season. Spraggon added a goal and put her lone attempt on frame, also her first goal as a Moccasin. Johnston recorded an assist and finished with two shots, including one on goal. Brodsky made five saves over 90 minutes and posted a shutout. Tonight marked the ninth shutout of 2026 for Brodsky, and the 23rd of her career.
The Moccasins will turn their attention to the Sunshine State Conference tournament, locking up the five seed. The SSC quarterfinals will take place on Monday, Nov. 2, at a site and opponent to be determined, with remaining league contests this week.
