Women's Swimming Complete Day Three of SSC Championships

OCALA, Fla. - The Florida Southern College women's swimming team remains in fourth place overall to wrap up day three of the Sunshine State Conference Championships on Friday at the FAST Center. 
 
The Moccasins have 167 points to remain in fourth-place overall. The University of Tampa maintains its lead with 539 points, followed by Nova Southeastern University in second with 467 points, and Lynn University in third with 276 points. 
 
To start the evening finals, Elizabeth Sikes took part in the 100 fly consolation final, finishing fourth in the B final with a time of 57.23. Josie Strobl was also in the B final, finishing seventh with a time of 57.69. Natalie True was the sole Moc in the 400 IM evening session, placing fourth in the consolation final with a time of 4:30.24. 
 
Three from FSC took part in the 200 free B final, led by Rania Khallouqi, who won the consolation final with a time of 1:51.48. FSC's Gabrielle Goodwin finished seventh in the heat (1:55.07), followed by Sam Hunter in eighth (1:56.18). The final event of the evening was the 400 medley relay, in which a team of Zoe Celi, Alexa Paredes, Sikes, and Hunter finished in fourth overall with a time of 3:48.05. The B team also had a good swim, finishing with a time of 3:52.36. 
 
In prelims, Sikes made the B final after a 56.51 morning time in the 100 fly. She was joined by Strobl, who made the cut after a 57.57 time for 16th in the morning swims. Other top 30 swims by FSC included Sophia Kogelshatz (58.46), Charlotte Bell (58.93), Kaitlyn Weitz (1:00.11), and Celi (1:00.75). 
 
In the 400 IM, True was just outside the A final with a time of 4:30.18 in prelims to make the consolation final. As part of the 200 free, Khallouqi had a great swim to place 10th in the morning heats with 1:53.02 to make the B final, as did Hunter (1:54.63) and Goodwin (1:54.94). Hannah Stewart (1:56.86), Emma Sammons (1:58.88), and Phoebe Reid (1:58.94) also made top 30 times for the morning. 
 
The championship resumes tomorrow, Saturday, February 14th, at 10:00 AM with Day 4 prelims. Events for the day include the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and 200 butterfly. The evening finals will add the 200 free relay to complete the day's events.
