LAKELAND, Fla. — No. 9 Florida Southern College men's tennis (11-4) lost a closely contested match to the No. 2 University of West Florida Argonauts (12-1) with a final score of 3-4 on Sunday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Moccasins secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Florida Southern clinched the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.
Mario Garoz and
Edoardo Melindo secured a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles over Rafael Sablo and Goncalo Quintela. At No. 2 doubles, #41
Bosko Boskovic and
Gabriel Jornert triumphed over Mark Neyelov and Samuel Vidales, 7-6(4). UWF's second-ranked Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon defeated
George Russell and
Onur Turgut, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Vicente Couto of the Argonauts captured the first point with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles over Russell. Sablo added another point for the Argonauts at No. 5 singles, defeating #39
Mario Antonio Morales, 6-1, 6-4.
Marco Cinotti leveled the score with a decisive 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles over Neyelov.
The match intensity heightened as #2 Duran overcame
Matthew Hewitt in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. FSC's #16 Garoz responded at No. 1 singles, defeating #5 Rondon in a thrilling 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 comeback. However, UWF sealed the match with Quintela's victory at No. 6 singles, where he triumphed over Boskovic, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
