LAKELAND, Fla. — The Florida Southern College Moccasins (14-12, 5-4 SSC) faced a tough matchup against Eckerd College (18-5, 8-2 SSC), falling 10-0 on Friday at Henley Field. The Moccasins managed five hits, including two triples, but couldn't capitalize, leaving eight runners stranded.
Eckerd jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning. Hunter Rebhan doubled to right and scored on Kam Gelwick's single up the middle. Christian Cabina followed with an RBI single, putting the Tritons up 2-0.
In the second, Eckerd widened the gap. A hit-by-pitch and a walk set the stage for Joey Bazydlo, who reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on another hit-by-pitch, making it 3-0.
The third inning saw Eckerd add three more. Cabina singled and scored on a throwing error. Bazydlo's RBI single and Ean Gimson's ground-rule double extended the lead to 6-0.
Eckerd continued their offensive in the fourth inning. Bazydlo and Gimson each contributed RBI singles, and Corey Hodierne added another with a single to center, pushing the lead to 9-0.
After a scoreless fifth, Eckerd tacked on one more in the sixth. Anthony Lino singled and scored on a fielding error, bringing the score to 10-0.
Florida Southern's efforts included a triple from
Mikey Scott in the first and another by
Gavin Smith in the sixth, but they couldn't break through Eckerd's strong defense.
Sachem Ramos started on the mound for Florida Southern, tossing 2 2/3 innings in the loss.
Christian Carew came in for 1 1/3 innings, striking out two.
Adler Holtz provided two innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out three.
Evan Parmer and
BJ Rivera each delivered a scoreless inning of relief, with Parmer striking out one and Rivera facing the minimum.
Colby Rice wrapped up the game with a perfect inning, striking out two of the three batters he encountered.
Grady Bivens earned the win, pitching 7 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out 10 batters.Â
Florida Southern is set to take on the Tritons again at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 21, at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
