BOCA RATON, Fla. — #2/#2 Florida Southern women's lacrosse (10-1, 2-0 SSC) rolled past #8/#11 Lynn (7-3, 1-1 SSC) with a solid 10–6 win on Saturday. The Moccasins' defense was a powerhouse, causing 10 turnovers and holding Lynn to just six goals.
Jenna Vetter was the Mocs' leading scorer with three goals on five shots, including a player-up goal.
Kelsey Bennett added two goals, one of which was the game-winner, on five shot attempts.
Hanna Watson was integral, tallying two goals and three assists on six shots.
Brayden Cannelli led the defense with four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle. Lynn struck first with Elizabeth Clagett's free position goal at 13:12. But Florida Southern answered right back—Bennett, assisted by Watson, found the net at 12:42. The Fighting Knights regained the lead at 4:18 with a free position goal by Angelia Huggins, only for
Grace Curtin to even it up again at 3:30, assisted by
Kassidy Miller. As the clock ticked down, Vetter seized a player-up opportunity, scoring with 15 seconds left, thanks to Watson's assist, putting Florida Southern ahead 3–2.
Lynn tried to keep pace in the second quarter with another free position goal from Huggins at 12:02, but Florida Southern had other plans.
Louise Aloi put the Mocs back on top at 7:36, and Vetter, with a feed from
Lindsey Tolliver, pushed the lead to two at 6:59.
Kolby Cohen's draw controls were key, ensuring Florida Southern maintained possession. Despite a late attempt by
Baillie Pinder, the Mocs held a 5–3 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw Florida Southern reinforcing their lead.
Maycie Neubauer kicked things off with a goal at 10:27, prompting a timeout from Lynn. Olivia Fox scored for Lynn at 8:51, but Florida Southern responded with Bennett's goal at 7:25, assisted by Neubauer. Lynn's Hannah Exley managed a goal, yet Vetter, with Watson's help, netted another at 3:48, ending the quarter with an 8–5 advantage for the Mocs.
Florida Southern didn't let up in the final quarter. Watson scored twice, first at 12:17 with Cohen's assist, then at 10:47 with help from Tolliver. Lynn's Fox managed a goal at 6:58, assisted by Rebecca Clark, but Florida Southern's defense, led by
Leanna Rivera's draw controls, kept them at bay. The Mocs sealed the deal with a 10–6 victory, improving to 2-0 in conference play.
Rebekah Bargeron posted six saves en route to her seventh win of the season.
