WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — #2/#2 Florida Southern (15-1, 7-0 SSC) delivered a dominant performance Wednesday, rolling past Palm Beach Atlantic (6-10, 0-7 SSC) 16-4 to secure the Sunshine State Conference title outright and cap a perfect 7-0 run through league play.
Florida Southern set the tone early with a five-goal first quarter, using a balanced offensive attack to build a 5-2 advantage. Jenna Vetter and Kelsey Bennett each scored twice in the opening frame, while Hanna Watson added a goal and an assist as the Mocs controlled possession and dictated pace from the outset. Vetter's first goal of the game marked the 100th of her career.
The Mocs continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, outscoring Palm Beach Atlantic 3-2 to take an 8-4 lead into halftime. Vetter completed her hat trick during the stretch, and Danielle Mojsej added a power-play goal to extend the margin. Charlie Laye also recorded her 100th career ground ball in the quarter.
Florida Southern put the game out of reach in the third quarter, holding Palm Beach Atlantic scoreless while adding four more goals. Watson and Baillie Pinder found the back of the net, and the Mocs' defense limited quality opportunities, allowing the offense to continue its efficient scoring run and extend the lead to 12-4.
The fourth quarter mirrored the third, as Florida Southern closed strong with four additional goals while again shutting out Palm Beach Atlantic. Kolby Cohen, Lindsey Tolliver, Isabella Bright and Kassidy Miller each scored in the final frame, punctuating a complete two-way effort that secured the decisive victory.
Vetter led all players with four goals and two assists, while Watson recorded a six-point performance with three goals and three assists. Miller contributed one goal and three assists, and Bennett added two goals. The Mocs showcased depth throughout the lineup, with 10 different players scoring in the win.
Next up, Florida Southern will host the second round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament next Thursday, April 23rd, and will face the lowest remaining seed of the tournament.
