Men's Golf Wins 18th SSC Championship in Dominating Fashion; Swartz Individual Champion

Men's Golf won its 18th team title in program history, led by Colton Swartz's individual SSC win

DADE CITY, Fla. - The No. 3 Florida Southern men's golf team won its 18th Sunshine State Conference Championship in program history, repeating last year's title with head coach Brian Richey '09 at the helm. The Moccasins finished first with a 9-under score after three rounds of golf at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. This marks the first time since 2000 and 2001 that the Moccasins have repeated as SSC Champions. 
 
Colton Swartz SSC Champion 2026

Colton Swartz was the individual SSC Champion with an 8-under score, the first FSC men's golfer to win a title since 2015, won by John VanDerLaan. Swartz was a big part of the lead after day one's first two rounds, and kept the momentum into the final round with six birdies and a 3-under round for the final score of 208 (-8). He finished three strokes ahead of Reggie Fear (Eckerd) and teammate Max Barile, who were tied for second overall with a 5-under tournament. Overall, from the three rounds, Swartz led the field in Par 5s, with an -8 average of 4.33 strokes. 

Barile tied for second after a 4-under final round to finish 5-under on the tournament. Barile eagled the ninth hole, a par five, to make it -3 from the front nine. He added another two birdies and just one bogey to finish the round with a 68. Barile was one of the best on Par 4s, with a 3.87 stroke average. 

Anthony Monteleone also finished in the top-10, tied for sixth overall with an even par score through three rounds. Monteleone matched Barile with the eagle on the ninth hole and carded a birdie on 11 to make it an even round on the final day. 

Tyler Mistretta and Donte Groppuso finished tied-21st and tied-36th, respectively, by the end of the championship. Mistretta finished the day 3-over (75), while Groppuso finished 2-over (74) for the final round. Mistretta and Groppuso each carded three birdies on the final day.

The Moccasins will await selections for the NCAA postseason announced on Sunday, April 26, on NCAA.com. Regionals for the South/Southeast will take place May 7-9 at the Valdosta Country Club in Valdosta, Ga. The NCAA championship will take place May 18-22 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
