Frankie Gatien Delivers Game-Winner for Mocs on Senior Night

The Mocs shut out the Saints 1-0 off Gatien's goal

LAKELAND, Fla.Frankie Gatien scored the game-winner as Florida Southern College women's soccer (2-0-2) shut out Flagler College (0-2-1) 1-0 on Senior Night at Berend Field.

Florida Southern outshot the Saints 19-8, including 11-5 in the second half, and held on through a second-half stretch of eight Saints attacking actions without conceding. Prior to the match, the Mocs had a Senior Night ceremony honoring Gabi Madrid, Bria Weldon, Ori Gotauco, Ally Prentice, Abby Haskell, Sierra Spirk, Sammie Markey and Rilee Hasegawa.

Florida Southern generated the first five shots and two corner kicks in the opening 8:09 but could not break through, with Hayden Ealey, Brinley Beorlegui and Hayden Johnston among the early chances. Earlier pressure gave way to a Saints stretch that included two corners and a shot wide before Carly Brodsky saved Netanya Brown's attempt in the 22nd minute to keep the half scoreless. The Mocs came back with attempts from Ellie Dossantos and Weldon, then earned another corner in the 25th minute as they continued to create chances. Johnston had the last major look of the half in the 43rd minute, striking the left woodwork, and Florida Southern went into halftime tied 0-0.

Gatien put the Moccasins in front at 68:54, finishing off an attacking free kick from Isabella Payne for the only goal of the second half. Earlier, FSC generated steady pressure with a corner in the 47th minute, a Jamie Klein blocked shot, a Johnston attempt saved by Irina Barron Gomez and a Dossantos shot off the left woodwork. The home side kept pressing with additional looks from Kyleigh Cilento, Aliya Roberts, Dossantos and Klein before earning another corner at 68:08 and breaking through less than a minute later. The Saints pushed back after the goal with multiple shots and corners, but Brodsky made a crucial save in the final 15 minutes to keep the shutout intact. The Mocs finished the match with a 1-0 win.

Gatien scored the Moccasins' goal, putting her only shot on frame and recording the match-winning tally. Payne added an assist and placed her lone shot on goal. Brodsky played all 90 minutes in goal, made two saves, and finished with a shutout. Dossantos and Johnston each recorded four shots, with one attempt on goal apiece.

Up next, the Mocs host Embry-Riddle University on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Berend Field in Lakeland, Florida.
