Jordan Barrett rejoined the Florida Southern College baseball team as an assistant coach in August 2023 after spending the last year as the pitching coach for Polk State baseball.
In Barrett's first season as the Moccasin pitching coach for the 2024 season, the Mocs pitching staff utilized 17 different pitchers throughout the year. A deep bullpen, FSC pitching wrapped up the season with vast pitching improvements despite injuries. Barrett led the pitching staff that had nearly 300 strikeouts with a .269 opposing batting average. Two Moccasins had four wins on the team as Mitchell LeRoy went 4-4 and freshman Tanner Rollyson had a 4-2 record in his first NCAA season.Â
During his stint as the Polk State pitching coach, Barrett helped the team to a 33-23 record in 2023 and a 6.15 ERA among the pitchers. Opposing batters had a .287 average paired with a great offense by the Eagles in 2023 that saw Barrett lead pitcher Evan Koehler to the All-FCSAA Second Team honors.
Barrett first joined the Mocs as an assistant coach on the varsity and JV baseball teams prior to the 2022 season where he assisted the JV program in their best overall record (11-7) in program history. A former pitcher himself, Barrett also assisted with the pitching staff on varsity which saw four different pitchers named to 2022 All-SSC teams, including first-team honoree Nathan Madej. Barrett's work with Madej helped him earn five SSC Pitcher of the Week selections, the most by a baseball player in SSC History, and two NCBWA POTW awards, the most in FSC history by a pitcher. Barrett's guidance in the bullpen helped the Mocs continue their 2022 pitching accolades with two pitchers named to the D2CCA All-South Region Team, one to the NCBWA All-South Region Second Team, and three pitchers to the ABCA South All-Region Second Team.Â
Prior to his first coaching position with the Mocs, Barrett was drafted in the 18th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017. The left-handed pitcher spent two years with the Blue Jays organization in four different minor league levels, including Advanced Rookie, Short Season A, A and AA levels. Barrett went on to pitch in the Frontier League with the Gateway Grizzlies in 2019 and 2021.Â
The Margate, Fla. native played at Polk State in 2014-15 before transferring to Elon University from 2016-17, where he finished his degree in sports management.Â
