Biography

Ben Swank is entering his second season as a member of the Moccasin men's basketball staff in 2014-15 and his first as Darner's top assistant. He came to Florida Southern in 2013 after spending the 2012-13 school year as an assistant men's basketball coach at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.

In his first season with the Mocs in 2013-14, Swank was part of a Moccasin team that posted a 26-5 record and captured both the regular season and postseason Sunshine State Conference Championships and advanced to the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament for the seventh consecutive year.

Swank, who was a two-sport student-athlete at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pa., graduated with Cum Laude honors with a degree in health and physical education in 2011.

As a student-athlete with the Fighting Scots, Swank was a four-year lettermen in football as a free safety, including serving as a team captain as a junior in 2010. He was named a Second-Team Academic All-American in 2008 and was a part of an Edinboro football team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA D-II Playoffs in 2009. That 2009 Fighting Scot team finished with a 9-4 record and finished third in the PSAC.

Along with playing football at Edinboro, Swank played one season of basketball for the Fighting Scots in 2011-12. In his only season of hoops, Swank played in 16 games serving as a back-up point guard and helped the team to a 13-13 overall record. He shot 44 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the 3-point line in those 16 games.

In addition to his one season of serving as an assistant at Allegheny, Swank has also served as a counselor at numerous individual and team camps the past three years. His father, Stan Swank, just recently competed his 25th season as the head women's basketball coach at Edinboro University. In his 25 years with the Fighting Scots, Swank has compiled a 444-261 record and is among the Top 20 winningest active coaches in Division II women's basketball.

Swank spent the fall of 2006 as a football scholarship student-athlete at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I. At the Naval Academy Prep School, Swank played football for six months, before transferring to Edinboro for the Spring 2007 semester.

As a high school student-athlete at General McLane High School in Edinboro, Swank competed in football, basketball and track. As a basketball player, he scored over 1,000 points and led his school to a 96-19 overall record, including winning two District 10 titles, one Region Championship and one ECL title, along with advancing to the Pennsylvania State semifinals as a senior in 2006. In football, helped General McLane post a 39-7 record and played in the Pennsylvania East vs. West All-Star Game and was a multiple time District 10 winner in track and was a member of the school's record setting 400 meter relay team.

Swank, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education, also earned a minor in coaching at Edinboro and completed three credits as a graduate student in the Educational Leadership program at Edinboro.
