Courtney Strauthers is in her third season as an assistant coach with Florida Southern women's basketball. She came to the Moccasins after spending two seasons (2012-14) as an assistant coach at Pensacola State College.
In two years as the top lieutenant to head coach Betsy Harris, Strauthers has helped guide the Mocs to a record of 40-20, including a 27-6 mark and appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2015-16. Over the past two seasons, the Moccasins have had four all-Sunshine State Conference selections, including the 2015-16 SSC Freshman of the Year, Camille Giardina.
The Mocs have won four SSC Offensive Player and three SSC Defensive Player of the Week awards over the past two years, and Florida Southern has also been impressive in the classroom, with 14 players earning a spot on the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Like Harris, Strauthers is also a former Alabama women's basketball player. She played for the Crimson Tide from 2006-10, averaging eight points, six rebounds and two blocks per game during her career. Strauthers led Alabama in field-goal percentage and blocks in each of her four seasons, and ranks eighth in program history in single-season field-goal percentage (.568).
As a junior in 2008-09, she started all 30 games for the Crimson Tide. She was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three different times in her career. Following her playing days, Strauthers completed an internship in the athletic department at Alabama, where she assisted in facility and event management, as well as equipment operations, marketing and administration.
She also has experience as a high school coach, having served as an assistant at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., where she helped lead the team to an undefeated regular season and a spot in the Elite Eight of the Georgia High School State Tournament.
As a high school athlete in Georgia, Strauthers led Shiloh High School to three-straight Georgia State Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance as a junior and a regional title as a senior. She ended her career as Shiloh's all-time leader in blocked shots, and averaged 12.0 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in high school. Strauthers was named a McDonalds all-American and was a nominee for the Wendy's High School Heisman as a senior.
Strauthers father, Thomas, played football at Jackson State before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1983 NFL Draft. He went on to an eight-year career in the NFL with the Eagles, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. Her moter, Jennifer, played college basketball at Arkansas State.
Strauthers earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science from Alabama in 2010, and went on to complete her master's in sports management in 2011.
