Three School Records Fall In Mocs Season Opener

Three school records broken and a triple win for newcomer Jeb Halfacre highlighted the Moccasins' season-opening performance against Tampa Saturday at the Hollis Wellness Center Pool.

Tampa won the men's meet 172-82.

The Moccasins wasted no time getting into the record book for the 2009-10 season, as they established a new mark in the first event of the meet, the 200-yard medley relay.  The all-freshman team of Bruce Janzen, Brian Moran, Alex Peterson and John Sevier finished in a time of 1:39.43, topping the previous mark of 1:40.22 set in 2006.

Halfacre, a transfer from the University of Florida, posted wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, setting school records in both, as well as the 100-yard freestyle.  His 100-yard backstroke time of 51.92 broke the mark of 54.55 set last season by Dan Naherny.  Halfacre also broke Naherny's 200-yard backstroke record of 1:59.66 with a time of 1:58.32.  His winning time in the 100-yard freestyle was 47.31.

Janzen had the Moccasins other individual win, capturing the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.96.  FSC's other event win came in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of Halfacre, Sevier, Peterson and Derrick Mysels finishing in a time of 1:29.21, as Tampa elected to swim the relay as an exhibition.

The Moccasins' next meet is Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. at the Hollis Wellness Center Pool against Saint Leo.
