The Moccasins opened their 2009 spring season with a 9-0 victory over Saint Leo Tuesday in a non-conference match at Saint Leo.
The doubles team of Greg Heartt and Brian deMontfort got the Moccasins off to a good start with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. The Moccasins claimed the other two doubles matches as well, then swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Roman Schirmaier, an All-American in doubles last season with Michael Knoedler and ranked #32 in singles to start the season, won his match at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4 over Pablo Chavez. Ben Taylor's 6-1, 6-1 win over Rich MacLachlan at No. 3 singles was the clincher for the Moccasins, who are ranked 17th.
The Moccasins play their first home match of the season today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. against Webber International.
