Box Score A six-run rally after two were out in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Moccasins an 8-5 win over Saint Leo Tuesday night at Henley Field.
The rally started innocently enough when Robbie Shields drew a two-out walk. Nick Stanley doubled him to third. Zach Maggard singled to left, scoring Shields and Stanley. Joel Frazer ran for Maggard and wound up at third after an errant pickoff throw and a wlild pitch. Andrew Grutka singled home Frazer to tie the game at 5-5. A passed ball moved Adam Miller, who ran for Grutka, to second and after Will Cherry walked, Braxton Chisholm singled to left, scoring Miller with the go-ahead run. After Colin Kaline walked, Trae Gore, who bounced out to first to start the inning, doubled to right to bring home two insurance runs.
Daniel Tillman, the Moccasins' fifth pitcher of the night, gave up a lead-off single in the ninth, then struck out the side to earn his first save of the season and end the three-hour, 35-minute contest. Ryan Wolfe, who retired the final two batters in the eighth, picked up the win to even his record at 1-1.
Ken Wadsworth, who took over for starter Troy Graybill in the second inning when Saint Leo scored all five of its runs, kept the Moccasins in the game with five scoreless inning in relief. He allowed just two hits and struck out eight.
The win evens the Moccasins' record at 3-3. Saint Leo falls to 0-4.
The Moccasins play a three-game weekend series against Palm Beach Atlantic at Henley Field. Friday's single game starts at 7 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
