TAMPA - Florida Southern is 2-0, Senka Softic is 2-0 without giving up a point, and head coach Trish Riddell remained perfect against Tampa. The Moccasins accomplished all of that Tuesday with an 8-1 win over the Spartans.
Florida Southern jumped out to a quick lead with wins at the top two doubles positions before Nora Baertschi and Amanda Carns finished that part of the match with an 8-6 win over Tampa's Emily Kennedy and Claire Runge. Softic then made quick work of Lauren Holt at the #1 singles flight, picking up her second 6-0, 6-0 win of the season. The Mocs then picked up three more straight set wins in quick succession from Baertschi, Erin Conroy and Ashley Hungerford to put away the match. Veronika Kovacikova eventually ended the day with a 10-6 win in the third set of her match, providing the Moccasins with their final margin.
The win gives Riddell a 10-0 all-time record against the Spartans. The Mocs have won 14 in a row overall in the series and will face Tampa again later this year in a match that will count toward the conference standings.
Florida Southern will be on the road this weekend when it takes on Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday at 3:00 in West Palm Beach, and Nova Southeastern on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Fort Lauderdale.
