MACON, Ga. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team wrapped up another fall tournament, participating in the Mercer Gridiron Classic this weekend.

The Moccasins had a great showing in the three-day classic, competing with several NCAA Division I, II, and III teams, hosted by Mercer University at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center.

The classic opened with doubles, as the pairing of
Josie Holderbach and
Giulia Bizzari won 7-6 (8) over their GCSU competition in the East draw.
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann also won their outing in the East, 6-1, over the Western Carolina pairing. Both dropped the quarterfinal matchup of the main draw, ending the doubles run for both pairings. Other FSC doubles matchups included
Johanna Dahlstrom and
Kristyna Bohatova, who fell 6-2 against a Middle Georgia State pairing in Flight B, but then won the next two matches 6-3 and 6-1 to advance to the West Final. The match went unplayed but a great 2-1 weekend for the Dahlstrom and Bohatova pairing.

In singles, Scheuermann had a great run in Flight A2, winning 6-4, 6-1 against a GCSU opponent and then 6-1, 6-2 against a Georgia Southern opponent to advance to the East semifinals. She dropped that match in two sets, on a 2-1 weekend for singles. Jennewein was in the same East draw, dropping the first match in a close three-set matchup, later winning 6-3, 6-3 against MGA in the West quarterfinals. In Flight C, Bohatova had a great showing, winning 6-2, 6-2 against Abraham Baldwin College, then recovering after a first set loss, to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, against her WCU opponent to go to the flight semifinals. Bohatova lost that in two sets, ending with a 2-1 weekend.

Other Florida Southern matches this weekend in singles included Holderbach, who lost her first match but won the second match against a Mercer opponent 6-2, 7-5. She ended her weekend 1-2 in singles. Dahlstrom won her first match, 6-1, 6-4, against a Mercer opponent, falling the next two matches in advancing draws. Bizzari also competed in singles, with her matches incomplete on a busy weekend.

The Mocs will return to Lakeland and compete in the ITA South Regional Championships Oct. 16-19, hosted by Florida Southern, at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
