Florida Southern Reels in Another One; Moccasins Beat Sailfish 7-2

WEST PALM BEACH - A 6-0, 6-0 win by Veronika Kovacikova, and an 8-0 win by Senka Softic and Ashley Hungerford in doubles were the highlights in Florida Southern's third match of the season, and sent the 17th-ranked Moccasins on the way to their third win of the season. The Mocs picked up one other doubles point and four points in singles to defeat Palm Beach Atlantic, 7-2.

Softic and Hungerford, ranked #19 in the country, turned in their most dominating performance of the season to get Friday's match off on the right foot. It was the fourth time in Hungerford's career the sophomore had been involved in an 8-0 win. It helped the Moccasins (3-0) take a 2-1 lead after doubles and Kovacikova quickly made it 3-1 with her shutout win against Natalie Aleman. Like Hungerford in doubles, it was the fourth time Kovacikova won a singles match without surrendering a point. The other three came last year during her freshman season.

After the win by Kovacikova at #3 singles, the Moccasins put away the match with straight set wins by Hungerford and Nora Baertschi. Softic and Erin Conroy closed it out with their own straight set victories. Hungerford, Softic and Conroy have yet to lose a set this year in singles play.

Palm Beach Atlantic got its two points courtesy of Pamela Artigas, who won in both doubles and singles play. It wasn't enough to keep the Sailfish from dropping to 1-3.

Florida Southern wraps up its trip to South Florida with a 10:00 a.m. match at #11 Nova Southeastern on Saturday.
