LAKELAND - Northwood got two points in doubles play, then won three singles matches in straight sets to hold off Florida Southern 5-4 in a battle of top-20 teams.
The Timberwolves (15-1) led 2-1 after doubles play as Ashley Neuman and Roberta Huetter pulled out an 8-6 win over Senka Softic and Ashley Hungerford to put them ahead. Erin Conroy, who had teamed up with Veronika Kovacikova for a win at #2 doubles, helped keep the Moccasins in the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win in singles play, as did Nora Baertschi, but Northwood eventually clinched the match with wins at the #2 and #4 positions.
Senka Softic picked up the final point for Florida Southern (12-4) by winning a third-set tie-breaker over Darina Berkova. It improved her individual record to 15-1.
Florida Southern will be at home again on Tuesday when it hosts #11 Rollins at 3:00 p.m.
