Nora Baertschi's 7-5, 6-3 win over Allie Steele at No. 5 singles provided the clincher, as the 17th-ranked Moccasins topped 11th-ranked Rollins 5-4 Tuesday on the FSC courts. The Moccasins improved to 13-4, 4-2 in the Sunshine State Conference, while Rollins slipped to 14-2, 3-2 in the SSC.
Rollins captured the first two doubles matches, before the Moccasins' No. 1 team of Senka Softic and Ashley Hungerford, ranked 19th , edged Rollins' 15th-ranked team of Margaret Junker and Kayli Ragsdale 9-8.
Straight-set singles wins by Softic at No. 1and Hungerford at No. 2 put the Moccasins ahead 3-2, but Rollins pulled even with a win at No. 6. Erin Conroy's straight-set win at No. 3 gave the lead back to FSC at 4-3, but Junker topped Kovacikova in straight sets at No.4 to again tie the match before Baertschi delivered her win at No. 5 for the Moccasin victory.
The Moccasins play Tampa Thursday at 3 p.m. at the FSC courts.
