WEST PALM BEACH â€" Roman Schirmaier and Guenther Fercher teamed up for a 9-7 win in doubles, and each player picked up singles points as well, as #14 Florida Southern ended the regular season with a 7-2 win over Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Moccasins (13-7) started the day with an 8-4 win by C.J. Johnson and Brian deMontfort at the #2 doubles position before Schirmaier and Fercher went deep in their match to defeat Krasimir Atanasov and James Buerkle at the top doubles flight. That gave the Mocs a 2-1 lead they would expand on during singles play.
Greg Heartt, the lone senior on this year’s roster, got the Mocs going with a 6-0, 6-2 win over John Tilton, his third straight-set win of the season. Nicolas Bigler eventually clinched the match for the Moccasins with his own straight-set victory at #3 singles before Fercher ended the day with a 6-0, 2-6, 10-4 win at the #2 position.
Ben Taylor also picked up a win for Florida Southern, giving him a team-leading 13 wins for the season. Schirmaier’s win at the top singles flight was his 12th.
Florida Southern, which ran its winning streak to four matches, will be off until April 16 when it begins play in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament in Boca Raton. The Mocs are seeded third in the tournament behind Lynn and Barry.
Palm Beach Atlantic ended the regular season 14-7.
