Five more school records were set and the Moccasins closed out their regular season with their first-ever dual meet win over Rollins, 125-79, and their first-ever NCAA national qualifier Saturday at Winter Park.
The Moccasins started and ended the meet with record-setting performances. In the meet's opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Jeb Halfacre, Miguel Ferreira, Bruce Janzen and John Sevier set a school record with a first-place time of 1:34.37. In the final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Halfacre, Sevier, Kelly Dorian and Alex Peterson established a new record with a first-place time of 1:26.66.
In addition to swimming on the two winning relay teams, Halfacre set a school record in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in a time of 50.64, which makes him the first Moccasin swimmer to achieve an NCAA qualifying time. The Moccasins' other school records in the meet went to Ferreira, who just joined the team earlier this month and who was swimming in his first meet. He won the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.77, which is a provisional NCAA qualifying time. He also won the 200-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 1:59.91.
The Moccasins' next competition will be in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship Feb. 17-20 at Charlotte, N.C.
