Another Shutout For the Moccasins, This One Over Palm Beach Atlantic

LAKELAND - For the third straight match, Florida Southern was in the win column, and for the third straight match, it came by shutout. With three players not allowing a point, and all six winning in straight sets, the 16th-ranked Moccasins downed Palm Beach Atlantic 9-0 on Saturday.

Senka Softic, Andrea Arguello and Agnese Rozite all won their singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and Softic and Rozite also teamed up for an 8-1 win at the top doubles flight. The Moccasins were rarely challenged, with Veronika Kovacikova and Amanda Carns also winning one of their sets by a tally of 6-0, giving Florida Southern eight such scores on the day. When Nora Baertschi finished the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Natalia Trotter, it gave Florida Southern its third straight shutout.

It's the first time since 2001 the Moccasins have posted three straight 9-0 wins, and that year they ran their streak to six in a row. It's the first time in their 30-year history the Mocs have ever opened a season with three straight shutouts.

Florida Southern will go for four in a row when it begins a three-match road trip to the Carolinas on Friday, February 19, at Erskine College.
