Mocs Make It Seven Straight With 7-1 Win Over Lions

The top-ranked Moccasins extended their current winning streak to seven in a row with a 7-1 Sunshine State Conference win over Saint Leo Friday night at Henley Field.

The Moccasins are now 23-2, 3-1 in the SSC, while Saint Leo dropped to 13-14, 2-5 in the SSC.
 
A second-inning RBI-single by Jovanni Fiallo gave the Lions a 1-0 lead that stood up until the Moccasins' fifth inning, when Tony Mitchell hit a two-run homer to right center to give FSC the lead.
 
Andrew Grutka drove in a run in the sixth on a fielder's choice, then the Mocs put together five straight hits in the seventh to produce four runs. Kelvin Clark singled in one run, Wade Kirkland doubled in two and Tyler Benzel singled in one. Clark and Colin Kaline each had two hits in the game.

Max Russell pitched the first seven innings to earn his sixth win without a loss. He gave up just five hits, only one after the third inning, struck out 12 and walked one. Ryan Wolfe and Patrick Szczerba each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.


The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m. at Henley Field.
