Double Comeback: Mocs Rally Twice in Doubles to Knock Off #10 Rollins

LAKELAND - With two big come-from-behind wins in doubles play, and four wins at the top of their lineup in singles, 13th-ranked Florida Southern earned a 6-3 win over #10 Rollins on Saturday, enabling the Moccasins to jump the Tars in the Sunshine State Conference standings.

All three doubles matches could have gone either way, and they nearly did. Rollins (11-8, 3-3 SSC) earned an 8-6 win from the top position of Nick Rowlands and Pablo Seijo, and had commanding leads in each of the other two matches before momentum swung the other way. Trailing 7-4, Brian deMontfort and Ben Taylor reeled off four straight points to win their match at #2 by a score of 9-7. Christian Lange and C.J. Johnson were in an even deeper hole, trailing 6-1, but they too came back for a 9-8 (5) win at #3.

Lange then got the Moccasins (10-4, 2-2) another win with his 6-3, 6-1 victory at #3 singles over Arturo Baravalle. Nicolas Bigler won his match in straight sets too (6-0, 6-2), and the Mocs eventually put things away with two more straight-set wins by Michael Knoedler and Roman Schirmaier.

Winners of seven of their last eight matches, the Moccasins will play again on Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. match at Saint Leo.
