Second-seeded Lynn Too Strong For Lady Mocs

Second-seeded Lynn overpowered the Lady Mocs 5-1 in Friday's semifinal match in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.

Lynn, which also is the No. 2-ranked team in Division II, won all three singles matches.  Veronika Kovacikova provided the Moccasins' only point in the match when her opponent, Tessie Salame, retired halfway through the first set.  Lynn clinched the match with wins at No. 6 and No. 2 singles.

With her match at No. 1 singles going unfinished, the Moccasins' Senka Softic remained tied for the FSC career record in singles wins at 72.  The loss at No. 1 doubles also left her one win away from matching the FSC career record for doubles wins (66).

She'll get another chance Saturday, when the Moccasins meet Rollins in the third-place match at noon.

Lynn and top-seeded Barry will play for the championship at 11:30 a.m.  Lynn is seeking its fifth straight women's title, but lost to Barry, 5-4, in their regular season match this season.

Florida Tech and Nova Southeastern play the fifth-place match and Eckerd and Saint Leo play the seventh-place match, both at 2 p.m.

All of the matches will be played at the Beerman Tennis Center on Edgewood Drive.
