The Moccasins and Palm Beach Atlantic traded 5-3 decisions in their doubleheader at Lake Worth Saturday. The Moccasins won the first game and the Sailfish won the second game.
The Moccasins scored two runs in the top of the ninth to win the first game. Trae Gore singled in the go-ahead run, wound up at third and scored an insurance run on Braxton Chisholm's sacrifice fly
Gore had three hits in the game and Tyler Benzel had two.
Ryan Wolfe (2-0) got the win in relief. Daniel Tillman worked the ninth inning and recorded his 12th save.
In the second game, the Moccasins scored three runs in their first two at-bats and made that lead hold up until the Sailfish scored twice in the fourth. Palm Beach Atlantic took the lead with three runs in the sixth on an RBI-single and two wild pitches.
The Moccasins had runners on second and third with two out in the top of the seventh, but Andrew Grutka popped out to end the game. The loss snapped the Moccasins' 12-game winning streak.
Wade Kirkland had two hits and a pair of RBI in the game.
Gus Schlosser (6-3) took the loss.
The Moccasins (37-6) play their final non-conference game of the season Tuesday night at 7 at Henley Field against Embry-Riddle.
While the Moccasins were playing outside the Sunshine State Conference, they got some help from Barry Saturday, as the Buccaneers swept a doubleheader from Tampa. The Spartans and Moccasins are now tied in the loss column with three each, although the Spartans have played and won six more games than the Moccasins.
FSC and Tampa meet in their three-game SSC series next weekend at Tampa.
