Mocs Down Warner 9-6 For Sixth Straight Win

The fifth-ranked Moccasins scored five runs in the first inning and went on to down Warner, 9-6, Tuesday afternoon at Lake Wales.

The win was the Moccasins€™ sixth straight and improved their record to 31-5, while Warner dropped to 19-20.

The first seven batters in the Moccasin lineup reached base in the five-run first. Kelvin Clark, Tyler Benzel, Andrew Grutka, Zach Maggard and Drew Morgan each had an RBI.

Warner scored a run in the fourth and picked up two more in the fifth to cut FSC's lead to 5-3.

Tony Mitchell doubled home two runs for the Moccasins in the sixth, but Warner answered with back-to-back homers by Hunter Reed and Cory Johnson to make it 7-5. The Moccasins added single runs in the seventh and eighth to take a 9-5 lead to the bottom of the ninth.

The Royals scored once and loaded the bases with two outs against closer Daniel Tillman before he struck out Ryan Paul to end the game.

Mitchell led FSC'€™s 14-hit attack with two doubles and a single. Trae Gore, Clark, Benzel and Morgan each had two hits, with Benzel extending his hitting streak to 12 straight games.

Moccasin starting pitcher Jake Guengerich, working a pre-determined three innings, got the win to improve his record to 3-1. He was followed to the mound by Dustin Merrell, Tucker Pryor, Ryan Wolfe and Patrick Szcaerba before Tillman came on the start the ninth.

FSC opens a three-game Sunshine State Conference series against defending national champion Lynn Friday night at 7 at Henley Field.
