The Moccasins and Nova Southeastern split their doubleheader on Sunday at Henley Field. The Moccasins came back to win the second game, 6-3, after Nova Southeastern took the first game, 7-2.
By taking the series two games to one, the seventh-ranked Moccasins improved to 39-11, 14-7 in the Sunshine State Conference. Nova Southeastern dropped to 32-21, 12-9 in the SSC.
The Moccasins broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning of game two, sending nine men to the plate in a three-run inning. Braxton Chisholm drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI-single that scored Tyler Benzel, who had led off the inning with a single and gone to third on a two-base throwing error by the Sharks. With two outs, Kyle Gibbs and A.J. Szatkowski delivered back-to-back singles. Trae Gore walked to load the bases, then Tony Mitchell and Kelvin Clark were each hit by a pitch to force in a pair of runs.
Gus Schlosser worked the first six innings , allowing four hits and two runs, to earn his eighth win in 12 decisions. Daniel Tillman closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts in the seventh, but was not in a save situation.
The Sharks Isaac Hicks pitched a complete game in the opener to notch his eighth win without a loss this season. He scattered four hits and gave up two runs, retiring the Moccasins in order in six of the nine innings.
Eddie Sipple (7-3) took the loss for the Moccasins. He was trailing only 3-2 when he left the game in the sixth, but the Moccasin bullpen gave up three runs to allow the Sharks to take control of the game.
The Moccasins finish their regular season with a three-game series Thursday and Friday at Rollins. Thursday's single game will be at 6 p.m., with Friday's doubleheader set for 3 p.m.
