SERIES HISTORY... Florida Southern is 11-0 all-time against Puerto Rico-Bayamon, with eight of the previous meetings coming in Jenkins Field House. The Moccasins have also beaten the Vaqueros twice in Puerto Rico and once on a neutral court at Florida Gulf Coast. Florida Southern won last year in Lakeland, 89-62, as 13 different Moccasins got into the points column, led by Damon Ellison with 17. The Mocs shot 56 percent from the floor and were nine-for-16 from 3-point range. The Vaqueros shot 35 percent from the floor and were 9-for-27 behind the arc. The largest margin in the series was two years ago, when the Moccasins won 111-75.
ABOUT FLORIDA SOUTHERN... The Moccasins are coming off a 97-79 win over UPR-Rio Piedras in their first home game of the season, a game in which they shot 49 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Gallitos, 47-31. Seven different players scored at least eight points for the Moccasins, led by junior transfer Seth Evans, who went for a career-high 25, topping his previous best at Wisconsin-Green Bay by six points. Evans also had eight assists against the Gallitos, and got the Mocs off to a strong start with 18 points and four 3-pointers in the first half. Freshman Kevin Capers reached double digits for the second game in a row with 14 points, and Dominic Lane had career-highs in points (12) and rebounds (10). The Mocs also got 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench from sophomore transfer Kyle Tazioli. In addition to Capers, two other freshmen saw major minutes in the win. Cameron Vines picking up eight points and seven rebounds in 23 minutes as a reserve, and Tyler Kelly scoring six points with six assists in 19 minutes.
ABOUT UPR-BAYAMON... The Vaqueros are playing game two of their 5-game trip to Florida after losing the first one at Florida Tech on Friday night by the score of 83-55. After Tuesday night's game, the Vaqueros will play three more Sunshine State Conference teams when they take on Saint Leo on Wednesday, Eckerd on Friday, and Tampa on Saturday. It's an identical schedule to the one they've played the last two years in Florida when they dropped all five games on each trip. Their last win against a school from the SSC was in November of 2008, when they defeated Rollins 88-82. UPR-Bayamon has five returning lettermen, including Antoine Perez and Jeshua Ayala, who each started against the Moccasins last year. Neither was the team's top scorer against Florida Tech though, as Wilangel Corps led them with 12 points off the bench. Ayala and Nelson Perez each scored 11, with Ayala pulling down eight rebounds. The Vaqueros shot just 33 percent from the floor, however, and were 4-for-15 from 3-point range.
