SERIES HISTORY... Florida Southern and Chowan have never met before this weekend. Chowan was a junior college until 1992, and has only been a member of NCAA Division II since 2005-06.

ABOUT FLORIDA SOUTHERN... Off from competition for more than a week, Florida Southern is after its third straight win after evening its conference record with an 86-75 win over Florida Tech on December 8. It was the seventh straight game the Moccasins scored at least 78 points, and the sixth time during that stretch they scored at least 85. That's pushed the Mocs' season average up to 82.8 points per game, only about one point less than it was through the same number of games last year, even with only two of their top eight scorers returning. Newcomers Seth Evans (16.9 avg.) and Kevin Capers (14.9 avg.) are the new Moccasin scoring leaders so far, Brett Bailey (14.4) has increased his scoring average by more than six points per game, and Dominic Lane has seen his scoring jump from a 2.1 average as a freshman to 11.0 this year. Along with Evans and Capers, Garrett Putman is another newcomer who stepped right into the starting lineup, and along with his 7.3 scoring average, he also ranks among the SSC leaders in rebounding. With Florida Southern leading the SSC in scoring average, the Mocs have also been getting more than 18 points per game from their bench, led by freshman Cameron Vines (6.0 avg.) and transfer Kyle Tazioli (5.8 avg.).

ABOUT CHOWAN... The Hawks are in Florida to play Florida Southern on Friday and Tampa on Monday, and they've won four of their last six following an 0-3 start. During those six games, the Hawks are averaging 81.5 points per game, after they'd topped 80 points only six times all of last year en route to a 5-22 record. Chowan is led both offensively and defensively by sophomore forward Antonio Reddic, a junior college transfer who leads the nation with 6.1 steals per game, and ranks eighth in scoring with a 23.1 average. He also leads Chowan in rebounding (6.2 avg.) assists (42) and blocks (12), and shoots 52 percent from the floor. Chowan's second leading scorer is junior Quinton McDuffie, who led the Hawks last year with a 13.6 average, and this year is averaging 13.8 points and 5.5 rebounds. Senior forward Mark McGlone averages 10.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 68 percent from the floor in his seven games played. Those are just three of the 11 different players who have started at least one game for the Hawks this year, and none of those 11 have started all nine. Reddic and Greg Alston are the only players who have started as many as eight.
