Mocs Roll Past Barton To Go To 7-0

The sixth-ranked Moccasins jumped out to an early lead and coasted home with a 14-3 win over Barton Saturday at Henley Field to sweep the three-game weekend series and improve their record to 7-0.

After Cory Jensen scored on a wild pitch in the first inning for the first of his four runs in the game, the Moccasins put six on the board in the second to give starter Clay Chapman a 7-0 cushion.

An RBI-double by Tony Mitchell, a two-run single by Colin Kaline, an RBI-double by Colin Kish, an RBI-single by Mike Snyder and a Barton error produced the six runs. The Moccasins tacked on four more runs in the fifth on an RBI-single by Mitchell, another two-run single from Kaline and an RBI-single from Kish. Austin Chubb drove in a run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Tyler Benzel wrapped up the Moccasin scoring with a two-run single in the seventh.

Kaline went 3-4 with four RBI to maintain his team batting lead at .556. In addition to his three hits, he aslo walked once to keep his on-base percentage above .700 at .733. Jensen walked twice and was hit by a pitch twice and scored all four times he reached base. Kish, Snyder and Mitchell each had two hits.

Chapman worked five innings to register his first collegiate victory. He scattered four hits, struck out eight, walked three and gave up just one earned run.

The Moccasins play at Flagler Wednesday at 6 p.m.
