Argonauts Blank Mocs Twice

Box Score 1

The Moccasins knew they would face some good pitching this weekend at West Florida and Saturday they found out just how good.

The sixth-ranked Argonauts blanked the second-ranked Moccasins twice, 1-0 and 4-0, and allowed just four hits in each game.

Entering Saturday's doubleheader, West Florida pitchers had a team ERA of 2.38 and had allowed three runs or less in nine of the team's 11 games.

Jason Postill worked 7.1 innings in the first game to earn his fourth win without a loss. He walked six and struck out 11. Shane Waller pitched the final 1.2 innings and picked up his second save.

The game's only run was unearned and came in the sixth inning off Mocs' starter Gus Schlosser (1-1). Greg Pron's two-out, RBI-single broke the scoreless tie after the Moccasins had thrown out a potential runner at the plate for the second out of the inning. Colin Kish and Kyle Gibbs each had two hits for the Moccasins.

In the seven-inning second game, Ben Hawkins went the distance for West Florida, also earning his fourth win without a loss. He walked none and struck out 11. Stephen Batman took the loss for the Moccasins to even his record at 1-1. Kelvin Clark had two of the Moccasins' four hits.

With the doubleheader sweep, West Florida (12-1) extended its winning streak to seven straight. The Moccasins suffered their fourth straight loss, falling to 7-4.

Sunday the Moccasins will try to salvage the final game of the series in a 2 p.m. single game at Pensacola.
