Mocs Use Two Big Innings To Overpower Lions

Box Score

The sixth-ranked Moccasins used two big innings, a five-run fifth and a six-run sixth, to overpower Saint Leo, 13-3, in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Henley Field.

The win was the Moccasins' fourth straight without a loss this season. Saint Leo dropped to 1-1.

After the Lions scored an unearned run in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1, the Moccasins responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Mike Snyder capped the inning with a three-run homer, his second of the season.

The Moccasins tacked on six more runs in the sixth on RBI-singles from Cory Jensen and Kelvin Clark, a pair of Saint Leo errors, an RBI-double from Snyder and a sacrifice fly from Tony Mitchell.

Snyder finished the game with a pair of hits and four RBI. Tyler Benzel had three hits and two RBI. Clark, Colin Kish and Colin Kaline each had two hits in the game. Kaline, who also drew a walk and scored three times, improved his team-leading batting average to .625 and his on-base percentage to .769.

Eddie Sipple worked the first five innings to pick up the pitching win. He allowed just three hits, one unearned run, struck out eight and walked three.

The Moccasins play Barton College (N.C.) in a three-game series this weekend at Henley Field, starting with a twi-night doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday and concluding with a 1 p.m. single game Saturday.
