Snyder's Hitting, Schlosser's Pitching Leads Mocs Past Saint Leo

Box Score

Mike Snyder's fourth home run of the season and Gus Schlosser's eight strong innings on the mound combined to give the Moccasins a 3-1 road win over Saint Leo Friday night in their Sunshine State Conference opener.

The win was the Moccasins' seventh straight and raised their season record to 14-5. Saint Leo dropped to 9-14, 1-3 in the SSC.

The Lions scored first on an RBI-single by Ryan Brnovich in the third, but the Moccasins came right back in the top of the fourth to tie it on Tyler Benzel's two-out double that scored Snyder.

With two outs in the sixth, Snyder belted his home run over the right field fence for his third hit of the game. The Moccasins added an insurance run in the eighth on Tony Mitchell's sacrifice fly that scored Cory Jensen.

Schlosser scattered six hits, struck out five and walked two while raising his record to 3-1. He allowed just two hits after the third inning. Jake Guengerich pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his second save of the season.

The Moccasins and Lions complete their three-game weekend series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Saint Leo.
