Box Score 1 The Moccasins extended their winning streak to 13 straight games with a doubleheader sweep of Eckerd, 8-2 and 10-1, Saturday at Henley Field.
The 17th-ranked Moccasins, who have won all 13 games since Pete Meyer took over as coach, are 20-5, 6-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. Eckerd fell to 11-12, 0-6 in the SSC.
Austin Chubb provided a big part of the offense Saturday, hitting three home runs and driving in nine runs. He hit a three-run homer to cap the Moccasins' scoring in the first game, then homered twice in the second game a two-run blast in the second inning and a two-run shot in the fifth. He also homered in Friday night's win.
In the three-game series sweep of Eckerd, Chubb hit .667 (6-9) with four home runs and 10 RBI and he wasn't even the Moccasins' leading hitter. Tyler Benzel went 6-8 in the series and hit .750 with a home run and five RBI.
Zach Maggard blasted his fifth home run of the season in the second game, raising his career home run total to 30, which puts him in third place on FSC's career home run list.
Stephen Batman pitched the first six innings to get the win in the opener, improving his record to 4-1. He allowed just one earned run, struck out two and walked two. Anthony Dovale, Patrick Szczerba and Clay Chapman each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
Eddie Sipple (4-2) tossed his third complete game of the season in the second contest. He scattered three hits, gave up just one run, struck out nine and walked four.
The Moccasins take on Barry next weekend in a three-game SSC battle for first place at Henley Field. Barry is 22-8 overall, 9-0 in the SSC. Friday night's single game starts at 7 p.m., with Saturday's doubleheader set for 1 p.m.
