LAKELAND â€" Sweeping all three doubles matches, and taking five of the six singles matches in straight sets, 5th-ranked Lynn defeated 7th-ranked Florida Southern 9-0 Monday afternoon.
The Knights (8-2, 2-0 Sunshine State Conference) earned their first two points with 8-2 wins at the #2 and #3 doubles positions before Ivan Marevic and Brian deMontfort pushed Vlad Cirla and Alessandro Sarra to the limit at the top doubles flight. That point eventually went to the Knights as well, with Cirla and Sarra winning 9-7.
From there, Lynn took the top five flights in singles play in two sets behind a quartet of nationally ranked players, with only Nathan Leavitt forcing his opponent to three. Leavitt defeated Benji Kendall 6-2 in the first set, but Kendall returned the favor by the same score in set number two. With a tie-breaker in effect for the final set, and the overall match already decided, Kendall closed it out for Lynn with a 12-10 decision there.
Florida Southern (4-3, 1-1) returns to action Wednesday morning in Orlando when it takes on Southern New Hampshire at 8:00 a.m.
