LAKELAND â€" Behind an 8-0 win by Andrea Berkova and Jessica Yanoff in doubles, and 6-0, 6-2 wins by both players in singles, #3 Lynn remained undefeated with a 9-0 win over #12 Florida Southern on Monday afternoon.
The victory improved Lynn’s overall record to 10-0 and its Sunshine State Conference record to 2-0. Monday’s win was the Knights’ eighth by shutout, with three of those coming against other opponents ranked in the Division II top 20. The lineup also featured six nationally ranked singles players and one ranked doubles tandem.
After the Knights swept through doubles play, they took all six singles matches in straight sets, with 11th-ranked Magdalena Ekert clinching the outcome with a 6-3, 6-1 win over 28th-ranked Agnese Rozite at the #1 position. Yanoff and Berkova eventually ended the day with their wins at #5 and #6 respectively.
Monday’s match was the first of three in the span of three days for Florida Southern (3-2, 1-2). The Moccasins will travel to St. Petersburg on Tuesday to face Eckerd at 3:00 p.m., and will host #8 California (PA) on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. as well.
