Box Score The Moccasins scored all of their runs in the fourth inning and made them stand up for a 4-3 win over Winona State (Minn.) Tuesday night at Henley Field.
With one out in the fourth and the Moccasins trailing 2-0, Zach Maggard hit his first home run of the season and the 26th of his career, moving him into ninth place on the FSC career home run list.
With two outs in the inning, Cory Jensen singled and stole second. Colin Kaline doubled him home. Kelvin Clark singled to right to drive in Kaline and when the ball got past the right fielder, Clark came all the way around to score what proved to be the deciding run.
Jake Guengerich, the last of five Moccasin pitchers, worked the ninth inning to record his first save of the season. He gave up a one-out single, then got pinch-hitter Kyle Sill to hit into a game-ending double play. Clay Chapman started and pitched the first five innings to get the win, improving his record to 2-0.
Jensen, Kaline and Clark each had two hits for the Moccasins, who improved to 9-5 on the season. Winona State dropped to 3-4.
The Moccasins, ranked 22nd in this week's Division II Coaches' Poll, play Saginaw Valley State Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Henley Field and everyone attending will be admitted free.
