ST. PETERSBURG - Three players won their matches without allowing a point, and two others nearly pulled off the same feat, as #12 Florida Southern defeated Eckerd 8-1 Tuesday afternoon.
After winning all three doubles matches with relative ease, the Moccasins (4-2, 2-2) won five singles matches in straight sets to pick up the win. Sabine Goge, Joalis Dominguez and Pamela Paradis all won by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and Laura Wichmann took her match 6-1, 6-0. Crystal Copeland was also victorious by a 6-2, 6-0 count.
Florida Southern did not use either Agnese Rozite or Veronika Kovacikova in singles play, but each helped the Mocs score in doubles. Rozite teamed with Goge in their usual top doubles flight for an 8-3 win there, and Kovacikova and Dominguez picked up an 8-1 win at the number two position.
Copeland and Wichmann also won their doubles match, 8-1.
The lone point for Eckerd (1-6, 0-3) came from Sonnet Ludwig at #6 singles.
Florida Southern will be at home Wednesday afternoon when it hosts 8th-ranked California (PA).
