LAKELAND - Benoit Paradis earned a straight-set win at #2 singles, his first over a nationally-ranked opponent, but it turned out to be the only point Florida Southern scored in the match as the 4th-ranked Buccaneers defeated the 24th-ranked Moccasins, 8-1.
The Bucs (15-5, 6-0) swept through doubles play, and picked up four singles points in straight sets to run their winning streak to seven straight matches. Emanuel Fraitzl, who has been the top-ranked individual in the country for most of this season, won his match at the top flight over Ivan Marevic, 6-2, 6-4.
The Moccasins (12-6, 3-2) got on the scoreboard when Paradis defeated 26th-ranked Max Wimmer, 6-4, 7-5. It was Paradis' third match this year against a nationally-ranked opponent and his second this week. C.J. Johnson nearly got the Moccasins another point at #4 singles, but was unable to finish off Quentin Vachez in the final set, eventually falling 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.
Friday's match marked the final one at home for Florida Southern in 2011, though the Moccasins still have two matches remaining in the regular season. They'll face Rollins next Wednesday in Winter Park, and Palm Beach Atlantic on Monday, April 11 in West Palm Beach.
