Dominguez Wins Again, but Moccasins Fall to Tars in SSC 3rd-Place Match

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS â€" Joalis Dominguez continued her impressive winning streak Saturday, but 11th-ranked Florida Southern fell to 9th-ranked Rollins, 5-1, in the third-place match of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.

Dominguez won her 16th straight match in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Stefania Tkach at the number four position. The freshman from Vero Beach is now 16-1 on the season, but it was the Moccasins’ only point of the match, as the Tars (18-6) swept through doubles and clinched the match when Mariana Salvador won in two sets at the number five singles spot.

Sabine Goge, the Moccasin win leader with 19 on the season, did not have a chance to extend her 15-match winning streak as Dominguez did, with the top three singles flights left unfinished.

Florida Southern (16-6) will now await word on a bid to the NCAA Tournament, with that announcement scheduled for Tuesday, April 26. The Moccasins were #4 in this week’s NCAA South Region rankings, and eight teams will be selected for the regional tournament the first weekend of May. Lynn, Barry and Rollins hold the top three spots, and Barry won the SSC Tournament title with a 5-2 decision over Lynn.
