Mocs fall to Nova

Florida Southern's Kelvin Clark and Tony Mitchell each hit a three-run homerun but it wasn'€™t enough as the Moccasins fell to Nova Southeastern 15-11 Thursday night at NSU baseball complex. With the win Nova improves to 30-14 overall and 15-5 in the SSC, while the Mocs fall to 27-12 and 11-5 in the SSC.

Florida Southern struck first scoring two runs in the top of the second. Mike Snyder got hit by the pitch to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a Nova error, and scored on a Tyler Benzel double to left field. Colin Kish followed with a sacrifice fly to left to score Tony Mitchell and give the Mocs a 2-0 lead.

The Moccasins continued their attack in the third. Cory Jensen led off with a single. Colin Kaline followed with a walk. Then Clark cleared the bases with his first homer of the season and gave the Mocs a 5-0 lead.

After Nova scored six runs in the bottom of the third, the Mocs responded with six runs in the top of the fourth. The Mocs got back-to-back singles by Zach Maggard and Austin Chubb to start the inning. Cory Jensen walked to load the bases. Maggard would score on a wild pitch to tie the game 6-6. After Kaline walked, Chubb would score on a wild pitch to put the Mocs ahead 7-6. Jensen would score on a Snyder sacrifice fly. Mitchell followed with a three-run homerun to give the Mocs an 11-6 lead.

The Sharks would score three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Carlos Asuaje doubled and scored on a Luis Penate RBI single. After single and a walk to load the bases, Haven Fitzsimmons hit a two-run single to centerfield and cut the lead to 11-9.

Nova would score two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game. The score remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when the sharks pushed four runs across the plate. Daniel Petitbon led off with a double and scored on an Andrew Durdon RBI double. Durdon would score on a wild pitch. After a Areo Regoli walk, Anthony Angulo hit a RBI double down the leftfield line. The final run would score on a Asuaje single for the 15-11 final.

Clark and Chubb had two hits each.

The Moccasins and Sharks complete their three-game series with a doubleheader Friday at noon at NSU baseball complex.
